The Affordable Warmth Obligation, also known as the Home Heating Cost Reduction Obligation, is aimed at low income and vulnerable households. Many fuel poor households suffer fuel poverty and may not want to apply for a Green Deal and would not want to buy into a "pay as you save scheme", instead they would need the benefit of increased 'Affordable Warmth' and comfort in their homes. The AWG would not see much "energy savings" from a Green Deal because their usage is typically low because of their financial position. Affordable Warmth Scheme is available to ensure homes are kept warm and energy costs are kept down.
There are many energy efficient measures that fall within the scope of the Affordable Warmth Obligation and the main specific ones include Affordable Warmth Scheme Free boilers, Affordable Warmth Scheme Free loft insulation, Affordable Warmth Scheme Free cavity wall insulation, Affordable Warmth Scheme Free replacement glazing to name a few.
The eligibility for Affordable Warmth is as follows:
1. To qualify for Affordable Warmth Obligation AWO free grants You must be in the private residence sector either as an owner or as a tenant (with Landlords' consent). The Affordable Warmth Obligation AWO grants will not be available to Council nor to Housing Association tenants.
2. A person living in domestic premises will be a member of the Affordable warmth Group AWG if the person is in receipt of specific benefits. These benefits can be found by clicking here:
