Green Deal Providers-Green Deal Plan

Climate Change Act 2008

As part of its ambitious targets to reduce carbon emissions in the UK by 80% before 2050, the new coalition government have introduced the Green Deal Plan. This Green Deal Plan is set to revolutionise the green energy efficiency of homes and businesses throughout the UK by allowing the general public and businesses to improve their green energy efficiency with no upfront costs. Instead Green Deal Providers will recoup these costs through a charge in instalments on the energy bill.

Green Deal Providers ensure that the general public can help address climate change by reducing energy waste and most importantly CO2 emissions. The Green Deal Plan is a self financing improvement scheme designed to bring the UK's housing stock up to date and in line with many of our European neighbours.  All over the country the Green Deal Plan will allow tenants, home-owners and businesses to obtain energy efficiency improvements without any up font cost via Green Deal Assessments.

The Green Deal Provider is the counter signatory to the Green Deal Plan and responsible for both the provision of the green deal finance and arranging the green deal energy efficiency works. I work with Green Deal Providers and can arrange the necessary green deal assessments and coordinate the green deal finance.  Many homes will also qualify for Energy Company Obligation ECO grants i.e. Solid Wall Insulation.

The Green Deal Provider will offer a Green Deal Plan to customers based on recommendations from the accredited local Green Deal Approved Advisors undertaking the Green Deal Assessments. The Green Deal Plan sets out the financial terms of the agreement and will include extra consumer protections such as warranties to cover the measures and installation, dealing with customer complaints and providing information when a new bill payer moves in.

The Green Deal Provider will arrange for the installation of energy efficiency works, carried out by local Green Deal Installers, and will have an ongoing obligation in relation to Green Deal Plans.

Subject: FITs/RHI/Green Deal - Information Update

Good afternoon,

FITs/RHI/Green Deal

Following clarification last week from the European Commission, DECC is now able to confirm how FITs and the Green Deal can work together to support consumers wanting to install microgeneration technologies.

Customers are able to use Green Deal finance to contribute towards the cost of installing micro CHP, micro wind or solar PV on their property.

Only the cost savings on their energy bill as a result of generating their own power can be used in calculating the amount of finance support they can get from the Green Deal. FITs generation and export payments are not included, but the customer can benefit from the Green Deal while also separately receiving FITs payments.

Subject to finalisation of RHI policy, installations attracting the Renewable Heat Incentive will also be able to benefit from the Green Deal. Again the amount of support will be limited to the energy bill saving and will not include RHI payments.

Kind regards,
Emma
